Fire-rated plasterboard is engineered for projects where the wall or ceiling must maintain integrity and insulation for a specified period. The board should never be evaluated as an isolated product claim.
Elements that affect the result
| Assembly element | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Number of board layers | Changes mass, joints and total fire resistance. |
| Metal framing | Controls support, deflection and fixing positions. |
| Insulation | Can contribute to the tested thermal performance. |
| Joints and penetrations | Weak detailing can reduce real-world performance. |
Procurement questions
- What fire period is required by the project documentation?
- Which tested assembly matches the wall or ceiling design?
- Are board thickness, edge and fixing requirements identical?
- What documents must accompany the shipment?
Do not substitute by color alone
Colored paper is a useful product identifier, but it is not enough evidence for a fire rating. Request the technical data and assembly documentation for the exact board being quoted.
For a compliant project, the designer, supplier and installer should work from the same assembly detail.
